Snorkeling at Cano Island

Up at 6:00am, the usual time. I decided to hold off on the big breakfasts they offer in order to keep my tummy from growing. You could eat yourself sick here and you want to because the food is great. It’s not the size of the portions, it’s all the little bits they add. For example dinner is accompanied by appetizers, salad, desert, cookies with coffee……. This even happens at breakfast where, even though there isn’t appetizers, you still get a plate of fruit put in front of you along with muffins and cereal there if you want them…..and then you order your breakfast.

Anyway, the boat took us out to another boat (we had to take a smaller boat out of the tiny harbour because the tide was low). From there we had a nice large boat that zipped us out to the island where we got fitted with our gear and jumped in to snorkel. It was pretty fun snorkeling and the best part was that there was a strong current that swept us parallel to the beach. This allowed us to float hundreds of meters overtop of the reefs. The best part was seeing the turtle. I dove down to it to get a good look and it seemed to not care. It looked like such a massively peaceful place, which was enhanced by passively floating along with the current.

We had lunch at a picnic table on the beach and enjoyed the view which was wonderful. The guides set everything up and just take such good care of you. These tours are fantastic. One of the best parts of being here in May, is the lack of people on the tours. Today there was just 5 of us and 5 guides!!!! Two guys ran the boat, two guides took the scuba diver out and one guide took 3 of us out snorkeling. Tomorrow it is just the 3 of us doing the horseback ride and I’m quite looking forward to that.
